Vintage Striped Taffeta Skirt 40s Swishy Skirt In Ribbon Candy Stripes, High Waisted Tea Length Midi Skirt

Vintage Taffeta Striped Skirt, 1940s Midi Skirt, Size S
This gloriously stunning striped taffeta skirt from the 1940s will be one of those pieces that you reach for every day, but that you also want to save for special occasions.
The swishy fabric of this skirt feels light and playfully formal. The stripes are muted colors but definitely demand attention.
The waistband of this skirt has little stays in it, I assume to keep the wide band from crunching up when you sit or bend.
I picture this with a fitted velvet blouse and black velvet ballet flats, like something Audrey Hepburn might wear. But I also see it with a crisp blouse and heels; or a cropped and fitted velvet blazer. I apparently really like this with velvet!

There is no tag in this at all, so I am not sure if it was hand made or not, but it is well done. I am also not sure of the content, but it's a lovely swishy fabric, probably taffeta. The closure is hook and eye at the waistband, and at the side opening. There is a pocket, but its really small and awkward. I have pretty thin hands, and my hands do not easily slide in, the pocket is quite narrow. It also requires your hand to go DOWN rather than at an angle as it naturally would. And its just shallow. It's weird. Like, maybe good for your car keys, or a lipstick.

This skirt is in really lovely condition. There is one ink spot on the lower front and one other discoloration hidden in the folds beneath the zipper. Other than that, the only condition issue that i noted was that there is a line where it seems a hem was undone. Possibly the skirt was taken up and then let back down? It's visible from the outside if you know to look for it - otherwise, I only noticed it when I held the skirt up to the light, to look for holes.

This measures as approximately a modern size 6 or small. Shown on a size small model. For best fit, compare the measurements below to your own, or to the size chart of a brand that fits you well.
