Adorable vintage woven shell bag from the 50s or 60s. This dainty handbag features over 200 hand-sewn seashells on its exterior, including the unique shell closure on the top.  The handle is braided in the same natural material as the body of the purse.  This piece is perfect to compliment your outfit for a summer wedding, or Sunday brunch.  It is a petite handbag (iPhone minis just barely fit), and is also in excellent condition.     

Polynesian culture had a major moment in the United States during the mid 20th century, especially in the years following World War II.  Americans adored the souvenirs they collected on their travels to places like Hawaii, such as this shell handbag.  These coveted island-inspired pieces were also available at aloha wear stores that started to pop-up on the mainland in the 1950s, such as Waltah Clarke’s, a Laguna Beach Vintage favorite.
