Vintage Trapeze or Maternity Dress with Butterfly Collar and Keyhole Neckline. 1970s Chevron Stripe Dress in Fine Wool Weave; Purple, Green, Yellow, and Gray. Beautiful soft lavender and green wool dress with a belt, buttoned neckline, and wide spread dagger collar. Trapeze shaped dress flares out from just beneath the bust and has a deep pleat that starts at the center of the torso. Above the pleat is a placket of 4 buttons with loop buttonholes, and two more buttons at the neck. There is a keyhole opening between the two sets of buttons, and the dress looks great with the top buttons closed or open. The collar is nice and wide, and sharply pointed. It rises very slightly in the back, rather than folding over. This helps it lay wide.
The sleeves end in gathers at a buttoned cuff for a very slightly puffed look. There is a tie belt also - and the dress looks great both with or without the tie. The tie can be placed at the empire waist level if you are trying to accommodate a belly beneath; and it can be worn at the waist if you prefer. Its also a great accessory to wear as a long hair tie if you prefer.
There are no tags remaining in this dress. The fabric feels like wool or a wool blend. I would recommend that a slip be worn underneath for sensitive skin and to allow the fabric to slide easily with movement, as the dress is unlined. This dress has been hand washed and air dried.
The only damage is a very subtly thin spot on the right chest, shown in photos.
There is no size marked. Based on the fit at the chest and shoulders, this fits like a modern size small, and is shown on a size small model. For best fit, please compare the measurements below to your own, or to the size chart of a brand that fits you well.
