Vintage Calico Shirt Dress by Betty Hartford, 1950s Floral Print Dress with Button Front and PIn Tucked Detail
This is a very pretty and simple dress, perfect as a day dress or for casual wear. Very dark brown (almost black) background is absolutely covered with tiny flowers. The flowers are pink, purple, and blue with teeny green and brown branch and leaf elements. The print is quite dainty and pretty, but the overall color of the dress still ends up being quite dark. While this is a mid century dress, it also has a prairie feel to it, its very sweet and modest.
This dress buttons up the front with tiny pink buttons. There is a snap at the waist, and a below the waist is open a bit (but the opening is concealed within folds and pleats so there is no exposure). The sleeves are 3/4 length and have button cuffs with small ruffles. The bodice is covered with tiny pin tuck pleats and the collar is a small band collar style.
The only tag in this dress is the brand label for Betty Hartford. The size measures like a modern size extra small, or 2. The bust and hips actually allow a little more room, but the waist would need to be let out for this to fit a larger size.
