Made in Italy by Ray-Ban, this pair of classic Aviator style sunglasses have the rimless design. The nose pieces are adjustable. This original owner kept the fold out paper pamphlet that came with these which is printed in several languages. According to the English version this pair "comply with the regulations and the essential safety requirements established by directive 89/686/EEC according to the reference standard EN1836: 1997. Based on that I am dating these from the 1990's.

Aviator glasses were originally designed for military men pilots, however for some years now they are considered Unisex, worn by both women and men.

The iconic Ray-Ban script logo is on the top side of one lens.

On the side of the black glasses case the words "Made in Italy" are in block letters.

The pamphlet further states these" offer UV protection, feature high optical precision and are impact resistant under normal wear. The frames are made of specially designed materials to guarantee lightness, comfort, and at the same time, mechanical sturdiness".

It is obvious the original owner wore these Ray-Ban glasses often. There are light scratches on the lenses, the nose pads are discolored and the end pieces are as well. The frames are not bent or distorted in any way, so these are actually still wearable. These issues are visible in the photos I have provided with this listing.

Although these vintage Ray-Ban Aviator sunglasses are only in Fair condition, I know there are collectors out there who value the used styles of this brand. In addition, the original paperwork and sunglasses case add to the collectible nature.

Of course, Ray-Ban sunglasses have an interesting history. As I excerpted from Wikipedia "Bausch and Lomb were the creators of Ray Ban. In 1929, US Army Air Corps Colonel John A. Macready worked with Bausch & Lomb, a Rochester, New York-based medical equipment manufacturer, to create aviation sunglasses that would reduce the distraction for pilots caused by the intense blue and white hues of the sky. Macready initiated the idea of creating sunglasses that offer eye protection as well as being stylish. Specifically, Macready was concerned about how pilots' goggles would fog up, greatly reducing visibility at high altitude. The prototype, created in 1936 and known as "Anti-Glare", had plastic frames and green lenses that could cut out the glare without obscuring vision. The name "Ray-Ban" was hence derived from the ability of these glasses to limit the ingress of either ultra-violet or infra-red rays of light. Impact-resistant lenses were added in 1938. The sunglasses were redesigned with a metal frame the following year and patented as the Ray-Ban Aviator. United States pilots were the first to start using these Ray Ban aviator sunglasses. The first photographs seen of this product were worn by the Army Generals and from there on out the success of Ray Ban continued to heighten.
