Authentic mid century Murano sommerso art glass geometric block bowl, hand made in Italy. This beautiful MCM art glass bowl was made with the 'Sommerso' technique in a stunning chocolate and caramel colored prism cut glass. It is bold yet sleek resulting is a beautiful piece of vintage Italian art glass. It is very substantial, and heavy. “Sommerso” in Italian means literally "submerged" or "sunken glasses". It is a fairly difficult technique, but giving a charming effect of three-dimensionality and brightness in the glass structure. The aim of sommerso is to create an illusion of deepness, and to add a glow between the glass layers. And it certainly does in this piece - the color changes depending on the angle and it almost looks like a rounded chocolate bowl is floating in a geometric caramel prism. It has a smooth sleek body with no texture or distraction for the beautiful but simplistic shape. It would be perfect as decor, as an ash tray, as a catch all, or even as a votive.

Condition:
Excellent condition with only one minor knick on a corner if you examine very closely. (See photos, priced accordingly).
