Personal tidbit: when my husband was in college, he dated the stepdaughter of the owner of Hilo Hatties. It wasn't a short fling either, they dated for quite a while. She actually lived with my mother-in-law who liked her and said she was a nice girl—sweet, I think she said she was a "sweet" girl. Her name was Cathy, or maybe Kathy.
Another personal tidbit: I went to school at the University of Hawaii—Manoa my junior year (that's on Oahu); it was through an exchange program with my alma mater Mizzou. Although I'd heard of Hilo Hatties, I never visited or bought anything from them because I was 20 years old and not so into muumuus. I'm sure you understand.
All of this is neither here nor there, but I thought I'd share because here I am 28 years later selling Cathy's/Kathy's stepfather's muumuus—well, not HIS muumuus, I don't think he ever wore them, but you know what I mean.
And now, 28 years later, I "would" wear a Hilo Hattie muumuu. I would. The triangle top string bikini I pranced around in back then—no, probably not.
I like everything about this muumuu. It reminds me of the island. And of my life back then and how people wear these bright, beautiful, bold florals all the time—definitely on Aloha Fridays. Did you know that Aloha Fridays started in 1966 in Hawaii and , then spread to California and beyond until it became know around the globe as "Casual Fridays"?
So if you enjoy that perk at your work, you can say Mahalo to the Hawaiians. And if you don't enjoy that work-perk, you should suggest it at your next company meeting—preferably wearing this muumuu.
How can you have a bad day wearing this thing? You can't. How can someone not smile at you wearing this thing? They can't.
If this particular one isn't your color scheme, I've got a red one that has a matching button down shirt. I KNOW, RIGHT?!
OR you could buy both--or all three--Go Big or Go Home someone once said and they were right...well, except in certain circumstances in which they were very, very wrong.
