Fabulous 1970s cherry red and white terry cloth dress from Catalina Sportswear.  Perfect as a beach cover-up, or a football game day dress. This amazing (and comfortable!) summer dress features adjustable straps, built-in shelf bra, nipped elastic waist with belt loops (no belt), one side seam pocket, and one sassy 13.5” slit up the side of one leg. It is in great vintage condition. No holes or stains, but the terry cloth fabric has a broken-in, vintage look that only adds character!

Originally known as Pacific Knitting Mills, E.W. Stewart, then owner of this iconic Los Angeles brand, changed its name to Catalina Sportswear in 1928. The company, known for their sportswear and bathing suits, took advantage of their proximity to Hollywood and used that as a part of their image, “Styled in Hollywood” being a popular tagline. Stars like Marilyn Monroe and Ginger Rogers were photographed wearing Catalina swimwear. The brand was also the official swimsuit competition sponsor of the Miss America pageant until 1951, after which Catalina went on to be the founder of the Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, and Miss Universe pageants as a way to market the brand.
