Alfred Werber
60s Rare Hot Pink Wool Mod Dress Set

THE CANDY is an absolutely glorious wool dress set from the early to mid-60s. It's made by Alfred Werber of St. Louis, a designer who dressed Jackie Kennedy during her time as First Lady. This ensemble is from that era, and would have looked stunning on Mrs. Kennedy--but its hot pink color adds an excitement and playfulness that also hints at Barbie and the swinging 60s, psychedelics and Peter Max.

This is truly a museum or film-quality outfit. Rarely do you find these sets in wool--they typically come in polyester double-knit. The construction is top-notch, from the jacket's avant-garde bust shaping that runs around the entire back of the garment to create the suggestion of an empire waist to the detachable belt to the darling floral openwork on the bodice. Even the lining of the jacket and the bodice is impressive: an iridescent pink/orange that suggests butterfly wings.

This set is in near-perfect condition, with the exception of two very small moth nibbles (pictured): one on the front of the jacket and one underneath the button placket, which can't be seen when the jacket is done up.

Truly a piece of American fashion history.

Fits like a women's SM-M.
