Waltah Clarke
60s Hawaiian Floral Honeymoon Set With Dress And Shirt

Rare 1960s Waltah Clarke Honeymoon Set. This darling maxi dress and matching button-up shirt are made from a beautiful blue and neon pink floral rayon. The dress’s lei neckline and ruffle hem add pizazz. The front of the dress features a 13’ center slit. Also, the bodice is well-fitted with front & back darts and a nipped waist. In the back, this lovely maxi closes with a Talon nylon zipper and hook & eye closures. The awesome matching button-up shirt has one front pocket and a collar. Dress has two small pinholes in the back, and the shirt has had one button replaced (perfect color match though!). *Green shorts not included*

Hawaiian culture was all the rage during the 1950s, and Walter “Waltah” Clarke’s mission was to bring the aloha spirit to the mainland. After college, Clarke moved to Hawaii where he managed both “Trader Vic’s” and “Don the Beachcomber.” In 1952, he opened the first “Waltah Clarke’s Hawaiian Shop” in Palm Springs, selling Hawaiian imports, such as muumuus and carved bowls. He met his textile designer wife, Gretchen, on a Hawaii buying trip in 1953, and she is whom we have to thank for their beautiful clothing. Gretchen updated the classic muumuu to fit current fashion trends, but always with a Hawaiian twist. Her designs are iconic and feature bold and bright prints that transport you to the islands. Following the success of the Palm Springs store, the pair opened their second location right here in Laguna Beach, and the third was inside the Adventureland Bazaar at Disneyland when the theme park first opened in 1955!
