Margaret Smith of Gardiner, Maine founded her handbag company in the 1940s and specialized in top handle bags with cute -- often floral -- prints. This is an excellent example of her work from the 1960s, featuring flowers in greens, whites, yellows, and oranges on a background of navy blue. It is lined in a bright, leafy shade of green.
Condition: Good condition on the exterior, fair on the interior. Still perfectly functional, but there are some flaws to note. The bag is a little warped and the shape is a bit wonky where it should be flat. As a result, it won't stand up straight on its own, and has to lean against something or it falls over. Not really an issue when you're carrying it, though. The interior is significantly stained. There is a zippered section in the center of the bag that was originally attached on both sides, but has come detached from one side.
This bag is definitely a better fit for someone who doesn't mind some imperfections. Despite its flaws, I think it still presents beautifully and has a lot more life left to live! However, it has been priced gently with the imperfections in mind.
