60s Big Cats Decoupage Wooden Box Purse Handbag$125.00
This large 1960s decoupage box purse or handbag has the best design ever: lions and tigers and leopards, oh my! The creamy painted wooden base is embellished with decoupage big cats, and hand-painted foliage in green and brown. Each of the big cats is slightly raised from the surface of the bag, for a 3D effect. The twisted amber lucite top handle is attached with gold-tone metal hardware. The off-center front clasp may have once been brighter gold to match; if so, it has tarnished a bit with age. The base of the bag is covered with rust brown wool felt, with 4 metal ball feet. The inside of the handbag has a fabulous surprise for you: it is lined in fuzzy leopard-print acrylic, faux fur fabric, with gold braid trim and a tiny mirror inset in the lid. The original owner has also left a tiny leopard-print matchbook inside! The artist has signed her handiwork as “by Vicki Jean”. This 1960s decoupage bag may be my favorite one that I have ever seen—I love the unique choice of the big cats theme. It is in excellent condition, appearing never used. The “puffy” cats are somewhat fragile by their nature, but are looking great! The tiger has one small crease in its surface, but no other issues. With reasonably gentle handling and care in its storage, this vintage wooden box bag should be fine to carry for years to come.
