Vintage mid century serving set of 19 Khokhloma hand painted wood lacquerware pieces, made in the USSR. The set includes: 1 large bowl, 5 medium bowls, 6 mugs, 6 spoons, and 1 lidded jar. The beautiful pieces of usable artwork feature metallic gold interiors and black exteriors. The exteriors are hand painted with bold and traditional floral motifs in gold, red, and olive green. They are in excellent condition and even have their original stickers! The set is sure to add unique, bold, mid century flare to your bar or dining room!
Khokhloma, Hohloma or Khokhloma painting (хохлома or хохломская роспись in Russian, is the name of a Russian wood painting handicraft style and national ornament, known for its curved and vivid, mostly flower, berry and leaf patterns. Often the Slavic mythical figure of Russian fairytales Firebird is also a part of Khokhloma painting. When painted on wood, in most cases red, black, green, yellow and orange are used over a gold background.
