40s Does Victorian Costume Burgundy Cotton Velvet Bow$175.00
This is a wonderful 40s Victorian-styled costume made of rich burgundy cotton. The costume consists of 2 pieces; a bodice and a skirt. The bodice has a high neck that fastens with hooks and eyes with a lovely cream chiffon ruffle trim. I believe that the ruffle is actually antique and was repurposed to trim the costume. The bodice is fitted and buttons up the front with white faux shell buttons. It has ¾-length sleeves that have a slight puff at the sleeve and the cuffs are trimmed in black velvet and more of the chiffon trim. The hem of the bodice in the back has a fun little bustle/peplum that is densely pleated and decorated with a large velvet bow. The bow also looks to be antique made of plush silk velvet with a satin back.
The skirt is super simple being floor-length and A-lined with a side zipper and buttons to fasten. The skirt has dense gathers in the back and appears like it is meant to be worn with a bustle. The costume overall does have the look of the first bustle-era dresses with 40s flare. It is meant to be worn with a bustle but does not have one attached to it. The bustle used for the pictures is not included.
Condition:
The set is in great condition overall with one flaw found. There is some damage to the chiffon trim on the back of the right cuff. The section is about a 1/2 inch and is not too noticeable overall. The only other thing to note is that this particular cotton fabric really likes to pick up everything, it is a lint magnet. It has been professionally hand laundered and is ready to wear.
