Hengerer's Department Store
40s Art Deco Red White, Blue, Purple, Gray Hand Painted Wide Necktie Wide Rayon Hengerer's Department Store by Hengerer's Department Store$49.00
A VERY handsome wide tie from the 1940s. I am from Buffalo, and this tie was thrifted there, in the 1980s. Hengerer's was one of the largest and most successful departments stores downtown. All are gone now, due to "white flight" of the 70's. Happily, downtown has rebounded, with upscale eateries and waterfront festivals. I remember my mother taking me on a bus from the suburbs to shop downtown and going to Woolworths to sit at the counter for a BLT. The big department stores were AM and A's, Bergers, Hengerer's, and then there were the 5 and 10's like Grants and Woolworths. Hengerer's was the store for men, so we mostly went to AM and A's.
This tie is so wonderful because of the colors. It will go with suits that are black, blue, red, grey, or even taupe. There is one small wear spot on the inner side. See close up. the tie is 4. 5" across the widest part, and is 51" long. The label is starting to come off, so I am going to anchor the corners now, before it gets any looser. Great wedding tie, or for stage, TV, film, etc. Priced on rarity, color, condition, and hand painting.
