This circa mid-2000s dress by CFDA award-winning designer Derek Lam has a flirty, slightly loose-fitting style reminiscent of 1920s flapper dresses, often made in similar silk chiffon fabrics. Giving a modern twist to this flapper-esque silhouette is the fabric pattern, a “splatter paint” print that reminds us a bit of Jackson Pollack on one of his calmer days… The sheer print chiffon outer layer is fully lined in plain white silk chiffon. The three-quarter-length sleeves have puffed shoulders, and are gathered at the hems with elastic. Tiny vertical pleats gently shape the loose-fitting bodice and fluttery skirt. The waist comes in just a bit, in between--not fitted, but defined. The dress fastens in back with an invisible zipper. Made in Italy for Derek Lam’s original label, this sweet of a dress is in excellent to mint condition, deadstock/unworn, with its original hangtags. The dress originally retailed for $1295, so it's a steal at this price, especially since it was never worn!
