Who Wrote The Movie and What Else Did He Write Inscribed Irving Brecher

Vintage 1970, "Who wrote the movie and what else did they write," a reference book for the writers of movies from 1936-1969. The book was given to Irving Brecher, whose name is inscribed in gold on the front. Irving Brecher was a screenwriter who wrote for the Marx Brothers among many others; he was the only writer to get sole credit on a Marx Brothers film, penning the screenplays for At the Circus (1939) and Go West (1940). He won an Oscar for the screenplay of "Meet Me In St. Louis."He was also one of the numerous uncredited writers on the screenplay of The Wizard of Oz (1939). Some of his other screenplays were Shadow of the Thin Man (1941), Ziegfeld Follies (1946) and Bye Bye Birdie (1963). Some of his other screenplays were Shadow of the Thin Man (1941), Ziegfeld Follies (1946) and Bye Bye Birdie (1963).Hardcover.

A joint publication of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Writers Guild of America, west, this book lists screenwriting credits for thousands of writers and films for 1936-1969 and also includes an awards index, as well as of nominees and winners of screenwriting Oscars and WGA awards. Dated, but still indispensable for the period covered (although one should also keep in mind that the WGA has in recent years issued a number of "corrected" credits to restore proper credit to formerly blacklisted writers; obviously these corrections are not reflected in this volume.)

Excellent binding, front and back cover clean. One small circle on the back. Pages are clean, not bent or marked. The title in gold is in VG condition. Just a little fraying on the top and bottom of the spine. Very good plus copy.
