Vintage ultra mid century 1954 Japanese Lacquer Ware mother of pearl serving set in original box. This complete beautiful set includes 5 original serving plates, 1 original large plate, 5 original bone horderve picks, one original serving chop sticks, and the original storage box. The plates are deep marron lacquers with mother of pearl inlay in wheat motifs! Lacquer is a clear or colored wood finish that dries by evaporation and produces a hard durable finish. The pieces are solid and well made. They have the original "hand written signature on the back of the large plate, noting the creation date. The Japanese translates to the names of 4 families - showing that this was a gift from 4 families to someone in 1954 as a wedding gift! Great vintage condition, original box included.
