Vintage 1940s showstopper of a velvet evening coat. Princess style. I believe the velvet is rayon. It's very soft and has great drape like silk velvet but seems sturdier than silk. Trapunto pleated shoulders with soft shoulder pads. Gored, with princess seaming so the waist nips in and the skirt flares. Covered buttons halfway down the front. Bracelet length sleeves. Beautifully lined in black satin. An incredible detail is that there is a layer of mohair between the velvet and the lining creating a wonderful softness and warmth (see photo 9).
