Vintage 1921 Book Faery Lands of The South Seas Hardcover Harper and Brothers$10.00
Vintage book Faery Lands Of The South Seas, 1921, original printing and published by Harper & Brothers publishing.
James Norman Hall (USA, 1887-1951) and Charles Nordhoff (USA, 1887-1947) Faery Lands of the South Seas (1920) Reader: Mike Vendetti Returning from the horrors of World War I James Hall and Charles Nordhoff follow a dream to tour the South Pacific.
Fascinating account of life in the Pacific islands in the early 1920s, full of anecdotes and insightful personal observations. It's strange seeing how he tackles his status as a white man: he wants to be more part of the island life, but they expect him to maintain a certain status, so he plays up to that. It could be considered racism by some, but it's more a commentary on how cultures do and don't intermingle.
