This necklace is made out of tortoise shell, mother of pearl and antique watch fob. The pendant measures 2 x 1. 5 inches. The mother of pearl inlay has great detail. The portrait in the middle is carved metal colonial lovers, a typical Colonial Quakers silhouette. The man handing her a flower and holding his top hat behind his back. She is holding a parasol. I don't know what the metal is. There are no flaws or scratches or chips. The watch fob chain it is hung on is not original to the pendant but from the same era. The chain is a very delicate one, probably for a woman, and consists of off white glass bugle beads, tiny green glass seed beads and rolled gold solid fluted beads, each of these measuring .5 inch each. It has its original safety clasp.

These types of jewelry were usually sea side resort souvenirs made in Great Britain. But tortoise shell jewelry got popular during Victorian times, so were popular in parts of Europe. It is a very fragile necklace, so wear and store with care.
