This is such a great dainty layering piece, but the mother of pearl makes an impact on its own. I love mother of pearl for its magical pearlescent quality. In the light, it shines differently at every angle, like an opal; by night, it almost appears to glow in the dark. This diminutive charm dates back to the Victorian era (19th Century). Victorian culture was full of symbolism, turning even the most everyday objects into talismans portending fortune. In the Victorian era, a hand was a symbol of protection, and also denoted friendship. This is a wonderful gift! The total drop is about 7/8".
