Victorian Handmade Frilly Ivory Irish Crochet Lace Collar

When you want a lovely lace collar, that you can easily add on to any look, this is THE ONE...

This incredible collar dates to around 1880's-1890's (possibly older, but that's my safe estimate) and is completely mad by hand. The style of lace is created using very fine crochet hooks and is referred to as 'Irish crochet lace'. The entirety is usually formed by creating a ground of some sort -in this instance it is a picot mesh, and then creating small detailed pieces -in this case, the 3-D flowers, and working them together. If you look closely you will begin to see these small sections. This collar also features two separate sections, or tiers, that have been stitched together (perhaps the maker started wearing the first tier, and after time, worked the second tier on). Each tier has edges finished with a triple section picot design that creates a scallop edge. At the top center front, someone has added the tiniest of metal snap closures (so that unlike other collars, you don't need to have it sewn into a garment). No labels or maker's marks present. The only flaw I could find throughout this collar, is a break in one tiny loop at center front scallop edge (completely unnoticeable but I like to disclose all details, good and bad). Please review photographs for full details.

Measurements:

- 7 inch collar width
- approximately 15 inches around neck opening
54 inches around collar hem
