Victorian Gold Filled Cuff Bracelet Empty Hair Compartment$85.00
This circa 1870, Victorian era bracelet is gold filled with a secret hidden compartment under the flower design. It is hollow and light weight. The hinges still work well, as does the tongue in groove clasp. The tiny zig zag details and flower design are all separate pieces that have been soldered on to the cuff. There is even great detail etched along the hinge and closure parts of this bracelet. There is a 1 inch small, hinge on the bottom door under the flower component that opens up to a tiny oval locket that measures .5 by 5/8 inch. It is empty and still has its original rock crystal cover. These bracelets were originally made to hold a locket of hair from a deceased or loved one. This could have been a mourning bracelet or sentimental bracelet, depending on whose hair it held.
This cuff bracelet is an average female size with a 2.5 inch opening. It is 5/8 inch wide. There is a mark on the tongue: "S" in a square, and ,"56" in a square below. I could not find the meaning of these marks.*** Since this is a hollow gold bracelet, there are minor, tiny dents. ***
