Victorian Antique 1870-1880 Brown Silk Taffeta Wrapper Dress$400.00
This is a wonderful 1870s to 1880s wrapper dress in lovely brown silk taffeta. The gown has a high ruffled net collar that is ruff Esq. The bodice has long sleeves that are cuffed with matching little ruffles and corded lace trim. The bodice ends just above the natural waist and flares out into the skirt which is a fuller shape that is quite to the period as it is bustled. The wrapper dress is meant to be worn at home to do household chores so this dress is not meant to be worn with the full bustle of the era. It has pickups on the sides that are supported from inside that help give the skirt its shape and volume all the way to the floor. There is also a fun bow on the front that falls down from the waist and ends at the hips with brown velvet faux buttons on the ends. The dress is unlined and fastens up the front with hooks and eyes.
Condition:
The dress is in overall great condition with a few things to note. There has been a fair amount of repair to the dress. Most are done with an iron adhesive but there is one under the left arm that is done by hand. It is not the best repairs but is sturdy and not the most noticeable in that location. The iron-on patches are sturdy and are small with the largest one being 1” by 2” and with the thickness of the fabric it is not too noticeable. These flaws do not take away from just how darling this dress is and it is still very wearable.
