The US 8th Army was activated in Tennessee. During World War II the "Amphibious Eighth" made 52 beach assualts on islands across the Pacific. Red and white are the colors used to distinguish the flags of Armies. The white cross pattern divides the octagon into 8 areas representing the numerical designation of the Army.
