From the very late 1930's or early 1940's, so rare, so collectible and so beautifully wearable, this vintage SKYLON nylon slip is size 36. It features a permanently pleated hemline, a softly shaped bodice with a pleated strip between two strips of sheer floral lace and an A-line shape. In Excellent Vintage Condition, it is a shiny nylon in a lovely soft pastel peachy color.

Bust size is 36 inches
Waist size is 32 inches
Hip size is 42 inches
Full length of slip, NOT including the straps, is 39 inches.
Full length of the straps is 17 and 1/2 inches.

There are adjustable straps, which are even a different construction than was used in later decades. These are thin strips of doubled fabric, stitched on both sides, then used as the straps.

Without a doubt this garment is one of the earliest uses of the synthetic fabric invented in the mid 1930's, called nylon, for women's lingerie. Before the invention of nylon fabrics, only silk, rayon or cotton were used for women's nightgowns and other lingerie items.

The only fabric label simply reads "SKYLON 36 Nylon". When you inspect the label you will see there is a tiny heraldic symbol next to that name, so that must have been the company logo.

Because this slip was made long before those were mandatory, there are no laundry instructions. However, since this is nylon, it machine washable in the gentle cycle. However, to be safe and make sure I kept this in Excellent Condition, I hung it to dry.

Freshly laundered, it will arrive at your door clean and ready to wear right out of the package.

There are no holes, tears, snags, stains or odors. Thankfully the original owner took very good care of this slip and then stored it well once she no longer wore it.
