Six Thousand Years of Hair Styling by Louisvery Rare 1939 Book with Forward by Carmel Snow Illustrated with Photos and Illustrations$99.00
Very rare first edition of Six Thousand Years of Hair Styling by Louis published in 1939. an oversized soft cover book, it was published with a plastic binding and acetate cover, so it is not a wonder it is so rare. M. Louis whose full name was Louis Napolita was a celebrated Hair stylist, artist and sculptor. The forward is written by the legendary Carmel Snow, the editor-in-chief of the American edition of Harper's Bazaar from 1934 to 1958. There is also a supplement by the author included. This was written 1954 for a school called, The American Hair Design Institute, where he was the director.
It's good vintage condition overall. Some definite signs of wear, most notably a tear onto back cover. There is also a detailed inscription in the front, see photo. Very interesting book, the first half does go through centuries of hair styles and the 2nd half photos of his own work.
