80s/90s Acoma New Mexico Storyteller Figurine Signed Ff$125.00
This beautiful storyteller figurine shows the teller and two children singing with mouths wide open. The storyteller is also beating a drum. It's a very dynamic piece with intricate detail work; the designs on the sides of the main figure's pants are tradition to Pueblo pottery. His shirt has dots representing cutwork in leather. It is unusual, though not unheard of, for the storyteller to be a male figure.
A masterwork signed by FF of the Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico.
Storyteller dolls have been made by the Pueblo people of New Mexico since 1964. The storyteller is usually a woman but can also be a man; the teller's mouth is always open. There are always children climbing over the storyteller (or sometimes sitting quietly in lap, as here). The motif is based on the traditional "singing mother" motif.
This is a genuine vintage item from my mother's collection. I have described the condition to the best of my ability. Please feel free to ask questions to be sure this is the piece for you.
My home is smoke-free, but it does shelter several feline Americans. No kitties will come with the package, but one might help me tape it up.
