Storyteller Figurine #2 Acoma New Mexico Signed Ff$110.00
This beautiful little figurine packs a lot of action and emotion into a couple of inches. A woman holds a child and sings a story with round mouth ... She also holds a traditional Pueblo style pot. I love the detail in her clothing, which shows a belt, a holder for her hair, and possibly leather lacings in her traditional sleeves. The child is probably a boy; that figure holds a ball.
The measurements above are approximate. This is a small figurine but very detailed.
I have another piece by this artist, FF, in a separate listing. This person was from Acoma, New Mexico, and the pueblo there. Very talented!
I can't find any damage to note, but please study the photos carefully. After 40 or so years, some wear may be inevitable.
Storyteller dolls have been made by the Pueblo people of New Mexico since 1964. The storyteller is usually a woman but can also be a man; the teller's mouth is always open. There are always children climbing over the storyteller (or sometimes sitting quietly in lap, as here). The motif is based on the traditional "singing mother" motif.
This is a genuine vintage item from my mother's collection. I have described the condition to the best of my ability. Please feel free to ask questions to be sure this is the piece for you.
My home is smoke-free, but it does shelter several feline Americans. No kitties will come with the package, but one might help me tape it up.
