Silver and Red Enamel Snake Brooch Serpent Pin$44.99
This snake pin measures 1.75 inches tall and 1.5 inches wide. It is an antiqued silver, accentuating the details of scales. He has two jet black cut glass eyes and a tiny forked tongue. The multiple small diamonds are enameled with a ruby red, as are the forked tongue and eye ridges. It closes with a 1 inch safety clasp which is still functional.
It was probably made by a high end costume jewelry maker of the time. The first half of the 20th century was the heyday for well made costume jewelry sold from fine department stores to Woolworth, usually made in Europe or the United States. The manufacture and quality of costume jewelry deteriorated in the latter part of the century making this era the last with enduring products.
There are no makers marks.
