Silk Square Scarf Aquascutum, 34 Inch, Ribbons, Flowers, Pearls and Chains Classic Design, Rolled Hemmed Edges, Sage Green Background, Vtg$30.00
Ribbons, small flowers, pearls and chains decorate this vintage silk 34 inch silk square scarf signed "Aquascutum" and so feminine in its classic design. Most known for its rainwear and traditional British clothing, this company is also a well respected name in designer scarves.
As you can see in the photos, this spectacular vintage Aquascutum silk square scarf has an overall pattern of a series of border designs on a sage green background. The outer border is creamy white. For the design (shown in close up in some photos) a mix of muted colors such as soft gold, pale pink, pale gray, rich purple, and tan is used to great effect.
Beautifully soft, this silk fabric drapes nicely, no matter how you fold it.
Remaining puffy, these edges are hand rolled and hemmed.
There are two issues to note for this otherwise wonderful scarf.
*** First, the fabric content label is missing, but there is no doubt this is a quality rich silk.
*** Second, some areas have shadows that show water damage when the original owner wore this in the rain. In the close up pictures you can see how that looks to your eye. Thankfully, when you fold this scarf to wear it, those areas are essentially camouflaged or hidden.
Due to those issues I have marked this vintage Aquascutum scarf lower in price so that you can feel better about your purchase of this vintage treasure.
I note essentially no other signs of age or prior wear, which is a testament to Aquascutum quality, plus how well most owners maintained these scarves.
No snags, tears, holes or odors are present in this scarf. All of the edges remain securely hemmed.
As a bonus to the new owner this scarf will come with a complimentary pack of Scarf Donuts, which make it easy to wear scarves without even the need to tie them.
According to the Aquascutum official website, "Set up by John Emary, Aquascutum began as a Mayfair tailors in 1851. From the beginning, fine craftsmanship and technical innovation have been at the forefront of the brand, and two years after opening, Emary created and patented the first waterproof textile. This unique development led to inspire the brand’s name, which translates as ‘water shield’, from . Promoted by King Edward VII, his majesty became the first royal client, ordering a coat in the Prince of Wales Check. In 1897 a royal warrant was received, marking the beginning of a long patronage with the royal family. Soon after, in 1900, Aquascutum began designing outerwear, clothing and accessories for women. The functionality of the coats and capes became popular with the suffragettes. Receiving the Queen’s award for export achievement in 1966, marked an increase in international attention and global success. Ten years later saw a feature in Vogue Magazine, to celebrate 125 years of the brand."
Freshly cleaned, this vintage Aquascutum silk 34 inch square scarf remains wonderful, in Very Good Vintage Condition, despite the minor issue noted above, and you will find it to be wearable immediately out of the package.
Here on the gulf coast side of Florida we are lucky to have many people from England who spend their winter months here. This scarf was originally owned by a British woman and I was happy to be able to purchase many of her scarves to make them available for others to enjoy.
