Made for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, this never worn silk shrug was inspired by a traditional lotus flower soft jacket. This bold black, white and tan design is patterned after what an actor wore playing the role of a samurai lord for a Kyogen theater production. According to the original paper hang tag the original robe is part of the Museum's collection, purchased in 1997, and donated by Mrs. Roger G. Gerry.
