This parrot seems to have a removable head to reveal that it is a basket but it seems like it will take a little gentle coaxing to remove it after many years of it sitting up high in an old estate. Overall the condition is fair with some damage, as pictured, on the bottom. This rare find hangs from a hoop with a thin fishing wire to help it balance in place. Description: Wooden feathers oven rattan wicker-woven body. A charming piece.About the art form: Shanghai Handicrafts is a rich traditional Chinese art that became available in American markets as trade between the two countries in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Each piece is hand-woven from wicker. Carved wood, stitching, and plastic eyes bring character to these pieces. High quality examples of Shanghai Handicrafts artisan work are exceedingly rare to find on the open market and some of the pieces that are for sale here are the only examples of their work available. These pieces are impossible to date accurately, but were made from 1930-1980 based on their tags and styles.About the style: Use wicker to add a cozy feeling to your living space. Interior decorators can creatively utilize these boxes to bring whimsy, history, conversational value, and a unique feel to their spaces. Wicker can also be added to an industrial space for a sharp contrast to create interesting and modern shapes.Did you know? Rattan is the material used in wicker weaving, while wicker is the actual style and art?
