Vintage book, Only Yesterday by Frederick Lewis Allen, 1931. This book has long been held as one of the best treatments of the 1920's America and talks about the great depression, prohibition, the start of the automobile. It features 15 full-page black-and-white illustrations, which are all in excellent condition.
Lewis was one of the best historians of the last century, as much a storyteller as an archivist. He talks about how the great depression wasn't taken seriously at first and how prohibition did more to encourage alcohol consumption, than take it away and how the automobile changed the industry and more.
This hardcover book did not come with a dust jacket, which was how it was made. It is the 30th printing of 1931, the only date in the book. It's in VG/excellent condition. The front and back cover clean with a tiny bit of crease, on the upper right and back corner. The pages are clean and not bent. The edges are unfinished, as produced. The binding feels strong but the book does stay open, when turned to pages. It has a very narrow separation in the first few pages. It has 370 pages and was published by the Blue Ribbon Publishing, Co.
Wonderful, interesting history book that shows how the 1920s set the stage for so many changes.
