This is a beautiful and rare antique edition of Middlemarch Vol. 1 by Anne Evans who published under the name George Eliot. Beautiful embossed cover, an illustrated front piece of the female author. It does not have a copyright which was common at that time for publishers at that time when importing books from Europe. Published by Hurst & Co. First published in book form in 1871, I was able to date this edition to the late 1880s based on the ads included in the back and other research.

In very good antique condition overall with definite signs of wear and age. Most notably some looseness to the spine, a name in the front and back and writing, including some numbers throughout.
