The 1910s and 1920s were one of the great eras in product design and advertising ... and in occurrences of the name Mavis (I love the name Mavis!).
The Vivaudou cosmetics company ruled with fragrances and powders made in France and purveyed in the U. S.--advertised with lush art deco illustrations. The strong red color and vaguely art nouveau muse with long hair encircling a bouquet of flowers--well, it was instantly recognizable. The Mavis scent was described as a meadow full of flowers.
HOWEVER, I have never been able to determine whether the Devoine chocolate company was affiliated with Vivaudou or just grabbing for some of their success by using the logo and coloring of their most famous product.
(I still think your Mavis collection needs one of these.)
I have several of these chocolate tins. Most have had a hard life; this one is in the best condition. Note that there is wear throughout, with some of the gold rubbed off, some darkening/rust on the red, and just generally the issues you'd expect. The inside is fairly bright with some black tarnish.
PLEASE study all the photos carefully to be sure this is the box you want. It is lovely--and as you can see, a tin of Mavis powder fits nicely inside, as will jewelry and trinkets and buttons--but it doesn't look as if it were made yesterday.
