This necklace is comprised of very detailed, carved Bakelite beads. The colors are supposed to simulate jade and jadeite. The detail is exquisite on each bead! The beads measure from 5/8 inch in the middle with .5 inch to .25 inch. It is still strung on its original string, so wear with care. It closes with a barrel screw Bakelite closure. It is 17.75 inches which is a small choker size and will fit a small female neck.

This bakelite necklace is circa 1920 and made by a high end costume jewelry maker of the time. The first half of the 20th century was the heyday for well made costume jewelry sold from fine department stores to Woolworth, usually made in Europe or the United States. The manufacture and quality of costume jewelry deteriorated in the latter part of the century making this era the last with enduring products.
