This late 1960s or early 1970s dress has the empire waist (raised waist seam), high neck, and puffed sleeves of the romantic or antique-inspired style, popular in the era with hippies and socialites alike. My mother's wedding dress from 1970 was very similar in style to this silhouette. This dress is bit more casual, perfectly suitable for day wear. The bodice and sleeves made of lightweight, semi-sheer ivory knit polyester with a lacy pattern. The wide waistband and straight, maxi-length skirt are made of an ecru poly-cotton blend with an embossed pattern, reminiscent of an extra wide seersucker stripe. Tiny ball fringe trims the high collar, bodice front, waistband, sleeve cuffs and hem. Small round, white plastic buttons (non-functional) trim the bodice and sleeves. The dress has a fun mix of textures, but in monochromatic shades, keeping the look from being too over the top. The bodice has bust darts for shaping, and the sleeves are three-quarter-length on our relatively tall mannequin. The dress is unlined, and fastens in back with a nylon zipper. In very good condition, this late 1960s-70s dress has one very faint mark on the back of the right elbow (see photo), and some minor fraying to the edges of the ball fringe. Neither issue should be noticed when the dress is worn.
