The novel takes place in the Netherlands and is a colorful fictional portrait of early 19thcentury Dutch life, as well as a tale of youthful honor. The book's title refers to the beautiful silver skates to be awarded to the winner of the iceskating race Hans Brinker hopes to enter and the potential dashed opportunities along the way, partly because of his own kindness.

The bindings look great, no rips, no markings, not ex library. A few little box cover bumps. Some signs of very slight use to cover, interiors are pristine. Amazing condition due to a child reading them. There are some bubbles under the front upper left corner on cover where the glue did not stick in manufacture.
