Hand-Sewn 30s Silk Gown In Peach Shell Buttons Keyhole Back All Hand-Worked Nightgown$350.00
This nightgown is a beautiful and incredible piece of handcrafted clothing. The gown is a peach silk nightgown from the 1930s. It has a high neck with a sweet peter pan collar that buttons in the back with a small shell button. The back of the nightgown is open in a long keyhole that runs to the middle back. The front of this nightgown is just as gorgeous as the back. It is completely decorated in hand done smocking in a checkerboard pattern with tiny shell buttons running down from the neck to the end of the bust. The checkerboard pattern also decorates the edge of the collar. The nightgown is all bias cut with the gown fitting a bit more like an empire waist because of the seam falling between the waist and the underbust. The skirt of the nightgown flows and clings to the body falling to the ankles. The finishings are all impeccable with all the seams being french seamed and all being hand done. The nightgown does have a tag that says “Mondaine, hand made size 34”, which refers to the bust size.
Condition:
Overall this nightgown is in good condition with a few flaws. There is some wear to the fabric particularly around the hips where there might have been more stress on the fabric from sitting and rubbing against other things. There are also a few noted pinholes all over and one repair on the back left shoulder that I didn't notice until I was editing the photos. This nightgown is not perfect but still has some wearability with a bit of care. It is a beautiful and amazing piece of handcrafted history with so much attention to the care put into the making of it.
(I am only allowed 10 photos and it's just not enough to showcase every little wonderful detail of this beautiful work of art. If there is anything else you would like to see please let me know.)
