hand painted canister with 3D figures. I wish I knew more about this item because it's really unique and interesting. It looks like one guy is holding on to a rock cliff and the other figure is sitting on the lid (on top of the world...maybe). The inside of the lid bubbles out and has a hole in the middle. Marked "HAND PAINT MADE IN JAPAN." It's in great condition with some minor signs of age and wear. The line on the bottom of the piece is a scratch, not a hairline crack. Also, some of the red paint is flaking off. It's really interesting to look at and would make a great conversation piece on a mantle or coffee table! It might be a piece of Sumida Gawa pottery and might be a tobacco humidor, ginger jar, or tea caddy.
