Antique Victorian Watch Chain with Opal Accented Heart Slide

This is just beautiful!

Often referred to as a watch chain, slide chain, muff chain, guard chain. These were worn with a watch, locket, fob or lorgnette. They had a very practicle use while being utterly beautiful.

This one is a heart adorned with 13 small opals with a ton of color. They give off a red fire that is so pretty!

The clip on the chain is marked Jas Sons and numbers or letters following that I believe to indicate it is gold fill but I cannot make it out under a loupe.

The curb chain seems to be a gold filled, I do see some wear.

The heart slide I did have tested for 10KT and it didnt quite pass so it is either 8 KT or very heavily plated. It shows no wear to the gold and color is quite even. It does appear to be a low grade gold in my opinion.

The chain measures 48 total inches in length. The heart slide is 3/8 x 3/8 inch. It slides easily. The chain has a tendency to kink lightly by nature. The heart has a shallow dimple on the back. Light wear appropriate for age to surface. Opals excellent condition, set securely and no cracks.

These pieces are so lovely and are perfect for layering your vintage and antique jewelry as they can be worn in a variety of ways with a variety of items.
