Edwardian Large Antique Ruby Rhinestone Hat Pin$95.00
A true delight for the collector, this antique early 1900s 9" long rhinestone hat pin is uniquely colored with alternating ruby bands of rhinestones set between clear ones. There are six different bands around a star shaped center and the head of the hat pin measures 2.5" across.
This is from the era when women were first gaining the freedom to take public transit and walk in public unescorted. They found that in addition to holding enormous hats on their elaborate hairstyles, their hat pins were very effective weapons against handsy men.
The coloring on the pin is also very unusual - red was a bit bold, and one could imagine it being in the possession of woman ahead of her time...a lauded actress...or a woman of independent means. The rhinestones still capture the light and sparkle, and the pin is secure in the base, although it does rock somewhat in the finding.
This pin has been well-used, as evidenced by it being dented and slightly out of round. This is not unexpected in these larger antique hat pins and it might very well have been used to ward off one of those mashers!
It still has all of its prong set stones and is still quite solid and, if you own a Gibson Girl style hat, wearable!
As with all collectible and vintage jewelry expect some wear due to its age. Please see photos for details as to its condition. This hat pin is from our 'Indiana Collection' but I have no other clues to its provenance.
