Edwardian Frilly White Cotton And Net Nightgown Silk Ribbon

This is a whimsical Edwardian frilly white cotton nightgown. The top of the gown, shoulders to bust, is made on a base of white bobbinet that has a lovely sheerness to it. Over the bobbinet, there are strips of pin tucking and the neck is V-ed with a net ruff. Right under the net, there is a ribbon that runs through the lace and ties at the center front that secures the nightgown. The sleeves are just so good, they have dramatic poet-styled sleeves that are full til just past the elbow with more volume at the elbow and frilly full cuffs made of stripes of the net and cotton. The cuffs also hang open at the center and fall bell-ed around the forearm and wrist with a net ruffle trim. At the fitted point, there is another ribbon running through the lace that could tighten the sleeves if need be but is just a wonderful detail. The body of the nightgown is simple and hangs loose, falling to just below the knee where there is a large flounce attached. The seam is broken up by the final ribbon through the lace that ties off in a large bow at the center. The flounce is gathered to add more fullness to the skirt with more stripes of the net. The nightgown has a center front opening and the only closure is the ribbon tie. With the placket running to the waist.

Condition:
The nightgown is in great condition overall with only two faint stains on the left side of the gown near the waist. They are very faint and hard to see in the volume. The ribbons might not be original to the gown. They don’t feel like silk ribbons from the era and might be a modern polyester satin ribbon that was replaced at a later date. It has been professionally hand laundered and is ready to wear.
