Edwardian Ethereal White Tissue Silk Tea Gown Train

This is an ethereal off-white antique Edwardian silk tea gown. The gown is stunning. It is made of a super thin tissue silk with lace applique. The bodice has a high collar that is supported with small stays at the back. The front down to the bust is covered in lace appliques in a round-yoke style. It has wonderful ¾-length sleeves that are pin tucked vertically around the arm and balloons out at the cuff, it's such a whimsical shape. The bodice has the Gibson girl pigeon-breasted silhouette and is super full. The bottom of the bodice has lots of pin tucking all the way down to the waistband. The bodice is partially lined in a silk taffeta from the bust down. It fastens up the back with hooks and eyes.
The skirt is trumpet-shaped and fastens up at the back with hooks and eyes. The hip area of the skirt has continuous pintucks from the bodice. The skirt falls to the floor and from the knees to mid-calf there is more lovely pin tucking. Attached at the end of the pin tucking is a large flounce that finishes the skirt and adds more volume to the skirt with the hem covered in more applique lace.

Condition:
This stunning set is in poor condition overall and is for display or study only. The tissue silk did not hold up well and is split all over with the worst damage on a section of the hem, Photographed. The fabric is fragile and if miss handled could split more. The lining of the bodice is brittle and is splitting as well. The bodice overall looks to be in better condition but there are large holes in the underarms. It is a lovely piece and looks great displayed as it's hard to see the flaws overall. It also has just wonderful details like the ballooned ¾ length sleeves that would be great to pattern and replicate. It has been professionally hand laundered and is ready for a new home.
