An early tuxedo tail coat made by Michaels, Stern & Co. Manufacturing in Rochester New York. The company began operating under that name in 1887. The store label is "The Union" (Clothing Company), also located in Rochester New York from the late 1800's to approximately early 1900's. The coat has satin lapels and three double sets of satin covered decorative buttons in the front. The only fastener is a button and loop at the first row of buttons. The button is on a braid that can be adjusted to size. The front cuts to two points. There is a back waist seam and two satin covered buttons at the top of the tails. Three decorative buttons are at the cuffs. Pockets are on the inside lining. The tails are approximately knee length and are pleated. It's fully lined in black satin. It measures 17" across the back between armhole seams or 34" around. The shoulders are 15 1/2" across, the sleeves are 24", the front length to the end of the points is 20" and back to the end of the tails is 39". Very good condition/Excellent antique condition (A pin sized moth chew at the left shoulder and a scratch and small break in the right second button - both noticeable on close inspection and seen in last photo).
