Chic, classic example of Waltah Clarke's 1960s Hawaiian floral muumuu. Clarke and his wife, Gretchen, were known for their sophisticated twist on Hawaiian-style clothing, particularly the muumuu. In the 1960s, Gretchen said, “we sophisticated the muumuu and made it into more of a fashion garment--resort wear--and not just a baggy dress.”

Here is a perfect example of that style. Wide, almost boat-like, neckline. Short flutter sleeves. Pockets. Thick, high-quality bubblegum pink cotton fabric with a bold, bright allover pattern of white daisies with hot pink and green accents. The silhouette is a loose A-line shape, neither fitted nor baggy. Two hidden side slit pockets. Hidden white metal back zipper closure. The seams look almost hand-made.

Gretchen Clarke designed almost all of the exclusive prints and garments. She and Waltah are credited with bringing the concept of aloha and "luau kitsch" to the marketplace. Their designs and fabrics were considered "very tasteful for the period" and their "product was very bold." The Waltah Clarke Hawaiian Shops were opened in exclusive resort town including Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Beverly Hills, Pasadena, and Palm Beach.

Condition is excellent. Some very light discoloration on the collar. The hem seam is coming undone (see pics). There is no size or materials tag, so please see the measurements and be sure they work for you.
