With an attached paper tag that identifies it as a Factory Sample from June 1964, this pastel yellow cotton robe is Summer-weather wear ready. Shadowline manufactured this for the Charmode line at Sears stores. A top layer of sheer chiffon trims the Peter Pan collar and the front yoke. Both are also accented by 1/2 inch wide white ruffled sheer floral lace. Six front plastic buttons line the center front. A square front pocket has a white floral lace applique on top with pink and green embroidery that is the mirror of the design on the collar and the yoke.

The tag identifies this as a Size Small, however please refer to the exact measurements to determine if this will fit you as sizing has changed over the years.

It is in Pristine Mint Vintage Condition, with only a minor issue to report. A large number of vintage factory samples were stored together, each with paper hang tags. Some of the tags became yellowed with age and this robe has one small pencil-head size spot of light brown on the lower left side. Using a little Spray 'N Wash before you launder it the first time will likely take care of that.

All seams are intact, there are no tears, snags or odors. This is a very fine, thin, lightweight cotton.

Of course this vintage cotton robe can be laundered. Because the original paper tag is still attached I have not done that.

Shadowline was a lingerie company, located in Morganton, North Carolina. It was founded in 1946 by Sherrod Salsbury, Jr. The company had the reputation of producing lingerie of very high quality. As you can see, they also manufactured exclusive garments for department stores, such as Sears.

This was an original Salesroom sample, meant to be displayed in a Shadowline showroom. That is where department store and boutique lingerie buyers would come to see what was available to order. The salesroom is where they could buy merchandise in bulk for a future season.
