Kay Unger graduated from Parson’s in the late 60’s and was one of three apprentices who worked for Geoffrey Beene. It wasn’t long after, that she launched her own line. Interestingly, the silhouette of this lovely dress (particularly the corset-like torso) is reminiscent of one of Beene’s documented 80’s designs. The Kay Unger brand continues to represent quiet, understated elegance, fabric combinations, and exquisite detailing. This dress does not disappoint!
The fabric of this champagne-colored dress is a cotton/silk blend. Translucent, it has a matching attached spaghetti strap slip. The slip fabric is 100% polyester with a shimmery, satin-like finish. Styled with an open pointed collar and gently gathered attached cap sleeves, the dress buttons down the front beginning 7“ from the neckline , creating a v-neck. There are 9 small decorative plastic buttons (and an extra inside the dress) as well as two small hooks .The bodice is gathered under each side of the bust and falls to a pin-tucked torso, creating the corset-like look. It then opens out to a full skirt. Bonus is the artfully appliqued, subtle hemline….alternate size same fabric flowers, some with hints of aqua peeking out.
